Bio
Following graduation I moved to Seattle and worked in pediatric hospital settings, both inpatient (NICU) and outpatient. I then moved to Hawaii and worked in a women’s and children’s hospital, primarily in NICU/PICU settings. This gave me an opportunity to learn about diverse cultures. I was lucky to provide care to outer islands and make medical outreach trips to places such as Vietnam and Thailand. I moved back to Colorado in 2000 and have since worked in hospital, private practice and homecare settings.
How I got interested in being a therapist…
I first became interested in being a speech therapist when I went with my grandfather, who had had a stroke and was non-verbal, to therapy sessions and out in the community. I found that I was able to understand him and support him in a way that many others could not.
Why I like working with kids…
The spontaneity and creativity.
What I like about home care…
I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings and I find that especially with feeding, children improve much faster when they are in their home environment. Challenges with feeding or speech impact the whole family and working together as a team provides the best support for the child.
What I like to do in my free time…
I usually want to be outside hiking or running but I also enjoy quiet creative time. I also love to do pretty much anything with my amazing family.
